I just got curious about how people would really react if they are asked to tweet something, and what Twitter as a social environment is really capable of. So, I decided to do an experiment and put my sincere ask on steroids — please Tweet This Post!. And Follow Me on Twitter!
I’ll post/tweet the summary of the results. Meantime, place your bets into comments.
- By clicking on the Tweet This Post! link opens the twitter web page in new browser window/tab with update text-box pre-filled Asko’s Blog: Please Help Me on a Social Twitter Experiment: http://tinyurl.com/dle3sz — click on Update button there to post the tweet. (Some users have already reported, that the link doesn’t pre-fill the text-box for them — if that’s the case for you as well, then just copy-paste the emphasized text from here. I am not sure about the reason and don’t know the quick fix for this)
- Clicking the Follow Me on Twitter! takes you to my tweets page on Twitter web site, but it actually doesn’t subscribe you yet to follow my tweets automatically — for this you also have to click the “Follow” button there (you’ll get a low additional tweet-traffic on this — I am posting a tweet or couple per week).
I just want to see, what is going to happen on this. I couldn’t help myself.
I’ll post the summary of the results — if you follow me on Twitter or subscribe to my blog feed, you’ll be automatically updated.
Meantime, place your bets into comments, what do you think the results are going to look like by next Wednesday (8.04.2009) — budget for the prize includes the announcement of the proud winner (in the summary and tweet). The winner will be the one who describes the outcome most precisely.
Thank you all in advance who are going to help on this experiment!

A rather cheap way to gather followers, but it worked
I actually used brightkite.com to update my twitter stream
My guess is 123 followers within a week.
Nikolai, thanks! That is better than nothing
.
Claudius, just checked in. Looks an interesting site. Did I get it right — you tried similar thing at brightkite? What results did you end up with?
At the moment You have about 40 Followers, i believe by the deadline You set there will about 10 more followers and people will post 30 tweets to help You on Your Social Twitter Experiment.
Btw i did my part and posted that tweet but i had to do it manually
Mart, thanks for the tweet
and the hint on the issue. It seems for some reason for some users the link really doesn’t pre-fill the Twitter’s web form. For me it works. I am not sure about the reason and don’t know the quick fix right now as well
. So, I just have to hope that too much tweets won’t get lost to that.
Current results: 46h, 7 tweets, +8 followers, 170 pageviews, 3 bets — more bets please. too easy for winners
Here are the results as promised
. Week after the start of the experiment:
* 7 tweets that I know of (I know tweets, that for some reason doesn’t come up with twitter search — so, there theoretically might be couple more tweets that I don’t know about)
* +9 followers
* 245 pageviews
* 3 bets — 2 bets on number of tweets, and 2 bets on number of followers
And the winners are….
* Nikolai, who was most precise on the number of tweets (bet: 9 tweets)
* Mart, was most precise on the number of followers (bet: +10 followers)
Congratulations for the winners!
